The food in Folegandros has to demonstrate fantasy and taste and it’s still, comparably, affordable.

You must taste the “matsata”, handmade fresh lasagna which are served together with rooster in tomato sauce, rabbit or kid. We also suggest the “souroto”, white soft cheese, the oven chickpeas, the cooked caper (ragout), snails also ragout (the “karavoli”), the “kalasouna”, pie with strained cheese and onions, the “manouropita”, pie with manouri cheese that is made in Spring.

Do not forget to taste the local kid with lemon or tomato sauce, lamb, kontosouvli, pork steaks or pork in pieces fried in their fat (“siglino”).

You will have difficulty finding fresh fish and it is expensive. You can find roasted or cooked octopus and you should search for the “goupi”, the small sun-cured bogue that accompanies the ouzo or your raki.

For dessert “orange pie”, “karpouzenia”, sweet pie made of watermelon with honey and sesame, and “melopita” with filling from myzithra cheese and honey.
